Home Care for Adults with Disabilities

Taking care of adults with special needs or disabilities can be a difficult task if you’ve never done it before. At Elite Home Care , now with central locations to Greenville SC and Myrtle Beach, we know the ins and outs of caring for these adults. At all of our locations, each facility is split into age groups from 18+ groups to senior living groups. By splitting our guests into age groups, we allow our team to focus on the needs of each person within that age range.

While we certainly have elder guests or in-home elderly patients with special needs, the majority of our elderly guests are folks with disabilities like memory care or physical disabilities (wheelchairs, etc). Our staff members are all professionally trained and DHEC certified to provide the best care possible for your loved one. Each caregiver, whether in-home or at our day centers , are available to provide transportation and general hygiene assistance to their patients.

The majority of our 18+ age group with disabilities have special needs like autism or down syndrome and are cared for either one-on-one at home or in our day centers. Our caregivers are all well-versed in special needs care and typically play games with our patients to aid in cognitive development. We offer:

  • Brain games like chess, crosswords and more
  • Outdoor activities like long walks and group sports
  • Transportation to group activities or appointments

Caring for Mentally Challenged Seniors

If you’re looking for caregiving services for your loved one, your search ends here. Most seniors with special needs are fighting cognitive battles with dementia, which can lead to frustrating conversations and daily tasks without the help of a caregiver. By using in-home care and respite services, our team can provide relief to you and your family and help your loved one get into group activities with people just like them that they normally wouldn’t have access to.

Staying Social as You Age: Tips for Staying Connected As we grow older, staying socially connected becomes more important than ever. Social interaction plays a vital role in promoting both mental and physical health. At Elite Home Care, Day Centers, and Transportation, we know how meaningful regular engagement can be for seniors, and we’re committed to helping our clients stay active, social, and connected within their community. One effective way to remain socially active is by joining local community programs. Participating in group classes, workshops, or hobby clubs allows older adults to meet new people, stay mentally engaged, and enjoy a shared sense of purpose. Whether it's a painting class or a book discussion group, these activities provide enjoyable opportunities to connect with others while learning something new. Volunteering is another fulfilling option for staying connected. Giving your time to a local charity, school, or religious organization not only helps others but also provides a strong sense of meaning and routine. Many seniors find that volunteering keeps them mentally stimulated and gives them a chance to make new social connections. In today’s digital age, embracing technology can help maintain relationships, especially when face-to-face visits aren't always possible. Learning to use video calling, messaging apps, or even social media platforms enables older adults to stay in touch with family and friends who may live far away. Technology can open doors to online communities and virtual events as well, allowing seniors to be part of conversations and activities from the comfort of their home. Attending local events is a great way to stay engaged with the broader South Carolina community. From seasonal festivals to concerts and public lectures, these gatherings offer a fun and enriching way to connect with others. Even a simple walk through the park or visiting a farmers’ market can spark new interactions and create a sense of belonging. Physical activity can also play a social role. Joining a walking group, participating in a fitness class, or simply going to a community center for regular movement-based activities allows seniors to meet peers and stay healthy at the same time. The combination of exercise and interaction provides both physical and emotional benefits. At Elite Home Care & Day Centers, we support all these goals through our comprehensive nonmedical caregiving services. Our day center provides structured social activities, group events, and a welcoming environment designed to help seniors feel connected and cared for. Additionally, our transportation services ensure that clients can safely attend medical appointments, community outings, and social gatherings, making it easier for them to stay involved.
